Our Goal: Have an event that starts at 10am on the first Saturday of October collect $10 per person and for fun adorn yourself, your horse, your event in pink.
Join the Hooves for a Cure Group Site to get the latest information and share with others your ideas and get ideas from other members putting on events. This is a great place to ask your questions.
Contact us via email at dbriggs@hoovesforacure.com with your address and phone number. Or fill out the form on the Rides or Contact Us pages. This is to help us try to keep all events legitimate. If someone contacts us about your event, we can verify it is one of our events.
1. Choose the type of event you are going to have. You can have a trail ride (organized or do-your-own thing), play day, pink parade, neighborhood ride, team penning, or if you stable your horse, maybe a pink day at the barn. Your imagination is the limit of what you can do.
2. Find a location to hold your event and confirm with those in charge of the location that is alright to have your event there. Ask if there is any deposits to secure the location, see if they will donate the charge, if not, take the amount from your proceeds and send the receipts with your money when your event is complete.
3. Don’t be afraid to ask those around you for help. Ask your family, friends, co- workers and club associations to help you spread the word. Some of the ladies have had club organizations want to sponsor their event.
4. Contact us at our website with the following information
a. Type of event you are having b. Location of the event c. If you would like the information posted on the website for anyone to attend we will need the name and address of the location and contact information. d. If your event is just for you and friends (i.e.: barn party or neighborhood gathering) contact us on our website to let us know you will be help us raise funds. We will need your contact and location information so that we can donate the net proceeds from your event in your area to the Susan G. Komen Affiliate in your area.
5. Advertising
a. Look for places to advertise for fee, most radio and TV stations have a calendar of events that you can list your ride on for free. b. See if there are any horse online site’s that list rides and other horse events in your state. c. Contact other riding clubs in your area to see if you can list your event on their calendar. Contact your local newspaper to see if they will do an article about your event for free. d. Place brochures and fliers around town. Feed stores are a natural place, but places where people commonly go – such as hair dressers, your local coffee shop, business’s that cater to women.
6. One of the best ways we have found is to purchase a Hooves for a Cure T-shirt with our logo and wear it in our local stores. People will stop you to ask about “Hooves for a Cure”, so, keep some fliers handy. Remember the profits from this site will be donated also. http://www.cafepress.com/hoovesforacure
7. After you have your event, go to the group section on the website and share how your event turned out. We love pictures to post on the website. Convert any cash into a cashier’s check and mail it, any checks and your registrations to us. We use the information from the registrations to create a mailing list for the next year. All events are net proceeds, so deduct your expenses and send the receipts with your donations.
We do have a Hooves for a Cure Checking account, so please have everyone make checks out to “HOOVES FOR A CURE”.
The net proceeds will be donated to your local Susan G. Komen Affiliate. We cannot use their name in any of our printed advertisements; this is due to the liability insurance they require and advertising requirements to approve each advertisement with their name. What we can do is tell people where the money will be donated. People can also put Susan G. Komen on the Note Section of their Checks.
